Thanks a lot for the information! The book is a good guide for people who have been suffering from tendonitis/tendonisis and shows some really useful exercises. In addition, the author was very kind enough to email me personally and advise me on certain things I was not sure of. Anyways, 20 dollars is a bargain given the fact that most of us would spend more than 100 dollars for a doctor's advice. I have been suffering myself for the past 7 months. I started doing those exercises about 2 weeks ago. There is no miracle cure(patience and dedication is key) but I can definitely feel some improvement. For the first time I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Locked,

Thanks for your comment, but I can't give you a definite answer without knowing more about your situation. If you have swelling and your doctor has diagnosed inflammation of the tendon, then you very likely have tendonitis. If the condition hasn't gotten better with a couple of weeks of icing, NSAIDs, rest and so on, then you probably have some tendonosis in there as well. The physiotherapy and my exercises will help for tendonosis, but not for tendonitis. I would say that the best course of action would be to continue the tendonitis therapy and add in the other stuff as well. From what you've said, it sounds like that should do the trick, but there's really no way to be sure without giving it a shot.

If you're a weightlifter and have been experiencing this pain for a while now, one thing I can definitely recommend is to stop doing the bad kind of exercise immediately. (If you've bought the book you know what I'm talking about.) I would also steer clear of the cortisone shot, as it will only (maybe) provide temporary relief even in the best case scenario.

I just bought te ebook and have been doing the exercises. I have had a sharp pain on the underside of my right wrist on the pinkey side. there is also a stiff pain that seems to go over the ulna. I have tried to vigorously ice it with rest along with NSAIDs but it is still swollen. I got an MRI and nothing showed up. my doctor wants me to get a cortisone shot for the inflammation then to do physical therapy. will the swelling go down with just your exercises and or physical therapy?

thanks

You're not alone. I've also experienced some pain with my Macbook. In my own case it was one of my interosseus muscles (here's a link), but I basically had to do some rehab on myself and change the way I was using the touchpad. You can either do that, or else get an external keyboard with better ergonomics. Kensington has some pretty good ones.

You can forget about the hand ball - it's not going to help much. And while you probably do have tendonitis at this point, if your pain gets worse it's going to become tendonosis, which is much more serious. See this post for more information on the subject.

Does anyone else have tendonitis from their apple products?

I bought a MacBook one and a half years ago and an iphone one year ago and my thumbs started being really twitchy with a little bit of pain and numbness, particularly on days when using the MacBook keyboard. I write a lot for work and am using the computer many hours per day. I try to have good posture and now use a mouse, but for many months was using the MacBook trackpad, which I think is the root of my thumb/wrist pain and twitching.

Then I went to the doctor and he diagnosed me with mild tendonitis and said to take Ibuprofen or Naproxen Sodium and get one of those exercising hand balls. Which I did, and maybe it got a little better, but whenever I use the MacBook all day without a mouse, I get mild pain, and also when operating my iphone with my thumb.

I never had these problems before, from sports, yoga, or gardening. Or with my laptop PC, which has a more comfortable keyboard design, but when I looked online to see if other people had problems with repetitive stress, there seems like almost nothing out there. So is it just me? Or does my MacBook have bad ergonomic design?

Hi Sue. The first edition has been retired, so all versions of TT now available are the second, updated edition. Also, I make small changes to the PDF file on an ongoing basis, so whenever you order you get the most up-to-date information available.

Thanks for writing in, Beverly. Unfortunately, I'm going to need a little more information before I can venture a guess about your condition.

Go ahead and see what your doctor says. "Pain in my thumbs" could be anything from arthritis to an RSI to full-blown tendonosis. Once you get your doctor's diagnosis, please write again and tell me what it is. Also include how old you are, any activities that you think might be contributing to your pain, how long you've had it, if there was any specific trauma that started it (I'm guessing no on this one if you have it in both thumbs), etc. Basically, anything that you think might be relevant would be good to know; too much info is better than too little.

Good luck, and hope to hear back from you soon.
